This is the famous Kali image Sri Ramakrishna worshipped in the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, Kolkata, India. Kali here is in her benign form. She is the dakshina Kali with her right foot front. By divine grace, Elizabeth Usha Harding got the rare privilege to take photos inside the inner shrine of Kali. Taking pictures in the inner sanctum is usually strictly forbidden.
This photo prompted Usha to write the book “Kali, the Black Goddess of Dakshineswar,” and indirectly started Kali Mandir in Laguna Beach.
